<p>With <a href="https://foxnews.com/category/sports/nhl" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">the NHL</a> in the midst of its offseason, that doesn't mean that some of the league's biggest stars aren't putting in the work, and in the case of New Jersey Devils captain Nic Hieschier, that work is saving a family from disaster.</p><p>Hischier — the top pick in the 2017 NHL Draft — hails from Switzerland and was over there this summer.</p><p>According to Swiss German-language outlet <a href="https://www.20min.ch/story/nico-hischier-rettet-familie-beim-aareboeoetle-in-bern-aus-notlage-103597588" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" target="_blank">20 Minuten</a>, Hischier was boating near the Engehalde Weir, a dam near the city of Bern, when he saw a family in distress out on the water.</p><p><a href="https://foxnews.com/outkick-sports/alex-ovechkin-signs-one-year-deal-return-another-nhl-season-capitals" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>ALEX OVECHKIN SIGNS A ONE-YEAR DEAL TO RETURN FOR ANOTHER NHL SEASON WITH THE CAPITALS</strong></a></p><p>The family — two adults and two kids — was in an inflatable raft, wound up getting pulled toward the dam, and were unable to get themselves out of danger on their own.</p><p>So that's where <a href="https://foxnews.com/category/sports/nhl/new-jersey-devils" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">the Devils</a> captain stepped in, with actions that were described as "heroic."</p><p>It's awesome to hear that he sprang into action like that to help those in need, but the best part of the story is Hischier's quote after the fact.</p><p><a href="https://foxnews.com/sports/chicago-blackhawks-dealt-devastating-blow-connor-bedard-expected-miss-start-season" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS DEALT DEVASTATING BLOW WITH CONNOR BEDARD EXPECTED TO MISS START OF SEASON</strong></a></p><p>"In this situation, everyone is grateful for support, and we were all relieved that no one was hurt in the end," he said, before going on to note the first responders who also helped out during the incident.</p><p>Now that is a Hockey Guy answer if ever there was one.</p><p><a href="https://www.foxnews.com/sports" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong>CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM</strong></a></p><p>He's being credited with saving a family, and when asked about it, he gave the family-saving version of, "It was a team effort; we just went out there and executed, got pucks on net."</p><p>Great stuff, and that's what you want from your captain.</p><p>It's what the Devils clearly want too, because earlier this month, they signed him to a five-year extension, a $11,700,000 AAV deal that will kick in after this season.</p>
